ANDY HEPBURN
COMPOSER

MY STORY
I’m a London-based composer with a background in advertising. Composition credits include Denner (TV, Cinema Online), Eve Mattresses (TV ad), short films for AXA, Fidelity and Karma Beach Club, and ambient vinyl soundtracks for Millennium Bridge House. I compose in a wide range of styles and especially enjoy ambient orchestral crossover, using found sounds and instruments from different cultures.
I have always enjoyed playing and making music, but my journey to become media composer really began in 2011, while I was working as a Creative Director in Beijing. I got to play one of my tracks to Howie B, who loved it, and encouraged me to start writing and producing more seriously.
Under the name my Mandarin teacher had given me, An Di Yi (pronounced Andy E), I released two albums of ambient, filmic, trip-hoppy music, inspired by sounds recorded on my travels. An Di Yi SoundCloud now has almost a million plays and has been featured by BBC Introducing on Tom Robinson’s show.
After leaving my ad agency job I began working on projects bridging the worlds of music and advertising, first collaborating as writer and music editor with Beijing punk band Reflector and Italian producer Lorenzo Dal Ri on films for Stuart Weitzman. On my return to London in 2018, I started working on the kind of projects you can see below.

REVIEWS
Andy has worked with me on TV ads and several pitches for European campaigns. He produces outstanding soundtracks that surprise and delight, fully answering every angle of the brief, and always bringing something new and unexpected to the table too. Andy’s compositions work hard to picture every time. As a commercial film director, I will have no hesitation in working with him in the future.

Greg Bray, Commercial Film Director, Mad Cow Films
As a former advertising creative director, Andy understands how to elevate a narrative, anchor key messaging, build emotion and engage an audience. Andy’s music and sound design - brilliantly captures the ebb and flow of a story and adds light and shade in all the right areas. His passion for sound is obvious through the great positive energy that he brings to every project.
